We will cycle from Discover Mekong’s office in Hue to the Wharf and then take a short boat ride on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda dating back to 1601. Here we can see the 7-storey octagonal tower built in 1844 and an old Austin car which transported the bonze Thich Quang to Saigon in 1963 for his self-immolation. Afterwards we cycle to Phu Mong garden house, which have opened for visitors since Hue Festival in 2003. Together with music, royal architecture, and gastronomy, Hue’s garden-houses are part of Hue’s cultural legacy, present since the Nguyen Dynasty built its capital there over 200 years ago. Like other garden houses in Hue, the Phu Mong garden house typically has two main areas: the wooded house and the surrounding garden, designed according to geomancy, and their owners’ spiritual life and skilfulness. We then visit some craft houses surrounding here before cycling back to our office.
